Whatever Today Is: Ain’t No Sunshine

The world is a little dimmer today… Ain’t no sunshine…

Bill Withers passed earlier this week, the news only released earlier today. Thought it appropriate to share this song, particularly now, as we look for some sunshine during a hard time. He had other hits, including Lean On Me, and I thought about sharing that song which would have been more uplifting, but something about this song… Maybe it’s the melancholic in me… this song needed sharing… maybe as a way to say it’s okay to be sad right now. It’s okay to be blue. It will pass. There will be sunshine again.

Of course, the first thing that came to mind as I wrote that was Annie’s “Tomorrow.” But I won’t go there. Not just yet (maybe not ever…).

I’m also reminded of the scene in Notting Hill where Hugh Grant’s character is walking through the Notting Hill street market and the seasons are changing. This song plays as he walks. It was perfect then and it’s perfect now…
