It's the last night in my sister's house and I'm awake… exhausted, but awake. Tomorrow friends will meet me at my storage unit and we'll load all my worldly possessions onto an assortment of trucks and cars and move me into the cutest little house. I say little, but it has three bedrooms, two baths, a laundry room and a lovely little back yard with a patio for my grill and room for my grandbabies to play. But it's an older home with character. You could call it quaint, which is fine with me because I like quaint.
I'd been talking with God about a place of my own for a while now. I've been living with my sister for four years and I was beginning to miss some of my own things. I hadn't planned to stay that long, but she hadn't really wanted me to move. Then Dr. Slocum's rental became available and she mentioned it to me. And then we found out that David wanted to move back home. His mom's house was full with a son, daughter-in-law and two children. We all then realized that if I moved out, David could move in with his auntie and everything would be good. I would have room for my daughter, son-in-law, and two babies to visit and David wouldn't have to sleep on his mom's couch.
The landlord, Dr. Slocum, will take care of the lawns, which is a great relief for me. All of my allergies have prevented me, over the years, from developing any desire to garden or till the earth. Don't misunderstand. I love well-maintained yards and gardens, but I've never had any real desire to maintain them, primarily because I wouldn't really enjoy working in them due to being allergic to most anything outdoors. It's sad, I know, but there you have it. Dr. Slocum maintains the yards and I am happy with taking care of the interior. And it is such a cute interior.
I'm looking forward to going through my own belongings and putting them away in cabinets and cupboards. Yes, I know it will be madness before it becomes orderly, but I'm excited about the prospect of bringing order to this new old house and creating my own little haven of rest and respite.
Oh, and did I say that it's only a mile from my office…
