Days on End: It Is Well With My Soul

It was a lovely Sunday. Slept in. Attended church in my pajamas, with a cup of coffee and toast and jam. I even made an apple pie! I went out and howled this evening. Throughout the day I chatted with Wilson. Quite a lovely day.

I started attending Oak Hill Bible Church four weeks ago. It’s right around the corner from my apartment. I’d found it through the Gospel Coalition website and I really like it. It’s small and similar to the Modesto church I attended for several years and loved. I really enjoyed attending Oak Hill the two times that I attended in person, before everything got shut down. Fortunately, they went online and I’ve attended the last two Sundays, in my pajamas. Last week they started their Easter series and I’ve really enjoyed the expository preaching. Easter will be different this year, though. There won’t be the fellowship, sharing the Lord’s Supper with one another. But God is still in His heaven and He is sovereign over all, including this coronavirus.

I was also thinking of my mom and dad today. Dad died in September of 2015 and mom this past January, both relatively peaceful passages. I miss them, but in a way am glad they’re not here to be going through this pandemic. Both were 92 at their passing and were confined to a home. It’s not be a good scenario.

A friend lost her father this week, to Alzheimer’s. I share her heartbreak at losing a parent. We can both say they’re at peace now, though it’s with tears in our eyes and broken hearts at the loss.

She shared this song upon her father’s passing and I want to share it today, the Lord’s Day. It’s a song of heartbreak, though the heartbreak is swallowed up in the peace that passes understanding that only comes from God. The song is rather appropriate for today in other ways, as we look to find our way in this disquieting time. Throughout the madness and grief that seems to haunt us these days, it is in God, through Christ, that we can cry out, “It IS well with my soul!”
