It's Wednesday of Passion Week. Jesus has come to Jerusalem. He's cleansed the Temple. He's withered a fig tree and used it as a lesson in faith. Wednesday is rather quiet after that, at least on the face of it. In the background, conspiracy runs wild, betrayal is setting its trap.
But this evening, Jesus has retired to Bethany, to be with friends… and a woman appears who breaks a flask of costly oil and pours it over Jesus' head. She has seen the value of Jesus, as opposed to Judas who has not. He has only seen the value of the oil and, would eventually only see the value of 30 pieces of silver.
It's the calm before the storm.
Shane & Shane were at my church this past weekend to lead worship as we began this Passion week. I was out of town visiting family for most of the weekend, but got home in time to attend one final event Sunday night as Shane & Shane sang and led a time of worship. This is one of the songs they shared from their new album.
It seems appropriate tonight. God is our refuge in this present storm. He commands us to "be still." He will be exalted in the nations. He will make himself known. Just be still.
Selah.
