Went to the opening of Thursdays at Newhall-Senses for the year and it was a St. Paddy's Day celebration… of sorts… There was plenty of Guinness and Tullamore Dew to be had at the various watering stations along the street and corned beef could be found on pretty much every menu of the local restaurants. Everywhere you looked, you saw various shades of green being worn by the revelers. The ONLY thing was the live music that was being performed was anything but Irish! It was loud and sounded for the most part Country and I was dismayed. What a travesty!
Came home with the sole purpose of finding something with a Celtic flavor. I was thinking Tempest, the Chieftains, Clannad, something Celtic. Then I remembered Thistle & Shamrock on NPR. Surely, they would have something to celebrate the day. And they did not fail me. In fact, I was introduced to a Canadian folk music group from Quebec which performs traditional Québécois music which is heavily influenced by Celtic music from both Ireland and Brittany! And they sing in French. Who knew?! And, oh, are they a wonderful listen. Le Vent Du Nord for the WIN and St. Paddy's Day is saved!!
Sláinte!
