It's the final week before Christmas! Today is the fourth Sunday of Advent. The message at church this morning was from James 4:7, draw near to God and He will draw near to you. During this time of rampant commercialism and with the horrors that have taken place in the world lately, it's the perfect time to press into Him for comfort, for understanding when there is so little that makes sense in the world. Much as it was in the time of Christ's birth, so it is today.
It's a hard season all around. More the reason to press into Him. James also says "Resist the devil and he will flee." I love that comparison. If we resist the devil, he will flee. If we draw near to God, He will draw near. God is for us! He cares for and comforts! If He is for us, who can stand against us! Selah!
The devotional today also deals with resisting the devil.
Christmas is a call to go on strike at the assembly plant of sin. No negotiations with the management. No bargaining. Just single-minded, unswerving opposition to the product.
Christmas Solidarity aims to ground the cargo planes. It will not use force or violence, but with relentless devotion to Truth it will expose the life-destroying conditions of the devil’s industry.
I love that phrase, "relentless devotion." It's not easy. It's not safe. God is not safe. But He's good.
We sang this song at church today. As we stand against the enemy and press into God, let our shout be "Gloria!"
