365 Day Project-Day 244-Goodbye God, I’m Going to Bodie

Last minute plans saw me getting up early and driving from Modesto to June Lake on Sunday (182 miles).  Had a fun, fun, fun day running around with my grandsons at the lake, from fishing to touring the tiny town of June Lake to playing in the water of Rush Creek.  It was a very full day spent running around at an altitude of 7,654 feet.  Did I mention that I was exhausted by the end of the day…?

We woke up bright and early to head back home to Santa Clarita (300 miles) in time for the family to go to a pool party at a friend’s house.  I stayed at the house…  Tomorrow, I will spend a little more time here with the fam and then head back home (283 miles).  Did I mention I’m a driving fool…?

On the way to June Lake I passed a small sign reading “Bodie State Park, Next Left, 13 Miles.”  That, of course brought back memories of a night long ago when I sat in the Fallon House in Columbia and watched a small band, Faux Renwah, bring Bodie to life.  There’s no really good way to describe Faux Renwah.  You have to see them to believe them, but they are entertaining.  They released an album, called Back to Bodie, that I purchased and have enjoyed over the years.  Don’t find much from that album online.  Guess it’s an acquired taste…  At any rate, I did find this video.  Sorry for the quality.  If you can put up with the narrator, you can listen to the history of Bodie, otherwise start the video at 2:30 and you’ll hear the song.  If that doesn’t work, the entire album can be found on their website for you to enjoy.  Did I mention that I’ve acquired that taste…?
