Our pastor talked about the life of George Muller today as his sermon. He talked of this man’s prayer life and his complete and total dependence on prayer to build the orphanages and to provide for all things. It wasn’t so much to take care of the orphans, which is a good thing in itself. He did this to show people the reality of God and His goodness and mercy, that God was able to provide, apart from and in spite of our efforts. And He did not provide just the bare necessities. He provided abundantly. This was no “God helps those who help themselves” message Muller was intent on revealing. It was a message of total dependence on God and His goodness. It was a powerful message then and today.
