Crazy day at work and I’m playing my Loreena McKennitt station on Pandora to help alleviate the stress. This song comes on and suddenly I’m swept away to another place, sheltered from the storm that would seek to break me, bend me to its will and evil devices. And I am refreshed and consoled.
As I sit here, this evening, listening again to the music, I search my memories to find what it is that causes this reaction. I look back to my childhood to see what made this music such a sanctuary for me and why, today, it creates this longing for home, though, the home that I know never had this music, never created this… yearning. And then it dawns on me that my longing is for a home that I’ve not seen… yet. This music reaches deep inside… to my soul… to my inner being… and stirs up this yearning… for… home. This place, this world is not my home.
