365 Day Project-Day 39-Unconditionally

Attended the funeral of the brother of a friend of mine.  It was a really beautiful service of family and friends sharing their memories and love for this brother, cousin, uncle, friend.  Love was evident in that service.  I also heard today that the youngest of my nephews had just made the decision to join the Navy.  My brother, his dad, texted all of the siblings and I replied that we need to have a send-off party for him and try to get all the cousins (our children) together again before he leaves for boot camp.

Something that was said in the funeral reminded me of these cousins, of which my daughter is one.  One of the eulogizers at the funeral was a cousin who said they were more like brothers than cousins.  That’s how I look at our kids, biologically cousins, but more like siblings.  They grew up together, played together and are all now young adults, some raising children of their own.

I spent the evening at my sister’s house and heard this song on the way home.  It reminded me again of that funeral today and the love that was evident, unconditional love, of a family for a brother who was gone, but also for each other.  It reminded me of the love of cousins for one another as well.
