Marshall Mathers is 40 today. For those of you unfamiliar with that name, he also goes by Eminem. He’s shown up on my list a couple of times this year. This is a song that I had considered earlier in the year, but I wasn’t sure because of the content. It’s intense, but as I listen to it again, I want it here. I’ve never been physically abused, but I have experienced verbal and mental and emotional abuse and it is equally damaging, if not more so, dare I say. No one sees the bruises or scars of such abuse… at least not right away. And the healing is just as difficult. I believe this song can help create more dialogue on the issue of domestic violence and we need to talk about it.
So, thank you, Marshall, for releasing this song and allowing the dialogue. And Happy Birthday!
