R.B. Greaves died last Thursday. He was 68. Ok, I didn’t recognize the name either, but I remember his first song, Take A Letter Maria, when it came out in 1969 and went to #2 on the Billboard charts. I remember singing along with this song and pretending I was Maria; well it was my middle name…
That was going to be my song for the day, until I listened to another song that R.B. Greaves released the following year. There are several versions of this song, my favorite being the one by Dionne Warwick. I remember singing this back in the day as well. A sense of melancholy comes over me when listening this song. Loves found and lost… Goodbye, R.B. Greaves.
