30 years ago… I was lying in a hospital bed, in labor, waiting, wondering WHEN this baby that I was carrying would ever decide to make an appearance.  After 15 hours, 15 hours of Pitocin-induced labor, the Princess decided it was time to emerge… And the world… well, my world was changed forever by her appearance… forever changed for the better, for she made me a better person.

mandy at 3 monthI was most fortunate, because she was an easy baby, a compliant child.  She would take naps when told, she was a happy baby and friendly to all.  She loved her family.  She was the social butterfly, always happy to chat with anyone and everyone.  She talked early and talked often.

I remember borrowing a video from the local library which had four short cartoons about a mouse named, Sniffles.  I forever remember this cartoon, The Brave Little Bat, because the little bat reminded me of this child of mine who loved to chatter on and on.

I remember her first day of Kindergarten.  I remember watching her go off to elementary school and then high school and then college.  Each milestone, I mourned the loss of that precious time, but I also celebrated the new steps that were being taken.  I celebrated her steps down the aisle as she wed her beloved.

There were tears shed as well because she was no longer mine, but I remembered too that she had never really been mine.  She was her Father’s child and He has been with her from the VERY beginning.  She belonged to Him, but I had the privilege of calling her my daughter.  I’m so very grateful that she walks with Him today.

She was a delight then and she is a delight today.  She was my beautiful baby girl and is now a mother to babies of her own.

Time has flown and continues to fly as I have watched this child of mine become a beautiful woman.

Happy birthday, my darling Amanda.
