I didn’t hear this news until after I’d posted my song of the day, but couldn’t let the news pass that we lost another great today. Earl Scruggs was 88.
I grew up listening to the likes of Lester Flatt and Earl Scruggs. We regularly watched the Grand Ole Opry and I remember listening to records by Jim Reeves, Jimmy Rodgers, Johnny Cash and Merle Haggard.
With the advent of Rock, I quickly abandoned Country, but have always loved the sound of good banjo and fiddle, and pretty much anything bluegrass; thus my ecstasy in discovering the Goat Rodeo Sessions.
But it all began with Flatt & Scruggs…
