In case you weren’t aware, today was International Women’s Day. I didn’t do anything special because of it. I did join with family to celebrate my sister’s birthday, though. Since I’m one of four sisters who all live near one another, we gathered, along with our mother… and a niece… and a nephew’s girlfriend and a granddaughter and daughter-in-law and celebrated our own version of Women’s Day. We sat around and laughed and talked while various and sundry male family members watched TV or wandered in and out of the house. All was well with the world because we were together.
But, because it’s International Women’s Day, I thought finding a song about girl empowerment would be appropriate. I was thinking about finding Helen Reddy singing, “I Am Woman,” but it just seemed so dated. I then remembered seeing Beyonce perform this song at the Billboard Music Awards. I found the official video and am sharing it here… in honor of International Women’s Day.
