It started with a couple of cryptic emails. They spoke of a new album and then troubles with the record label. Then Derek Webb said he was going offline for a while and that we needed to pay attention. Then it got crazy. There were hints here, links there, click this, enter that, go here, read this, go there, read that. Some sites were down, others were created. Everyone was twittering clues, hints, questions, links.
It's been crazy, but Derek Webb has gone wild and crazy with this promo, and I only say that because that's what I think it is. I could be wrong, and I know others on the assorted twitter sites have given up and some are complaining about the over-the-top aspects of this "game."
Like I said, it's been crazy, but I've been having fun trying to keep up. I know I can't, but I've had fun following the ones who are keeping up, who are following and figuring out what is going on and who have been sharing what they've found.
One site I found has provided somewhat of a summary of what is going on and where to go to find more information. The Bloggable Music Network has done a really good job providing clues and information on what is going on. They can help you find the free song that Derek has released which (I'm assuming) will be on the album. It's called "The Spirit vs. The KickDrum" and I really like it.
I'm fascinated by the name of the album, "Stockholm Syndrome" and wonder what he means by it. The definition for Stockholm Syndrome, as found in Wikipedia is:
a psychological response sometimes seen in abducted hostages, in which the hostage shows signs of loyalty to the hostage-taker, regardless of the danger or risk in which they have been placed.
It will be interesting to see where Derek goes with this. See you on the other side.
