Holiness

I’m participating in an online book club through Tim Challies’ site, Challies.com, and we’re going through JC Ryle’s book, Holiness.  Tim asked a while back if anyone was interested in commiting to read through some of the classics like Calvin’s Institutes or Augustine’s Confessions or Jonathan Edwards’ The Freedom of the Will.  There was a huge response and so he selected Holiness.  You can read more at his site about why he chose that one to start, but I committed with the rest to read a chapter a week and participate either by posting a comment or at least reading through the comments.  Not sure yet how much I will post, but I am excited about reading the book and the comments.

I didn’t have time to go buy the book before we started reading, so I went to the online library that was recommended and downloaded the book to read.  I was also excited to find out about this online library.  What accessability we have to so many resources!!

I read through the Introduction and, like some who posted on Challies site, had to keep reminding myself that this book was written over 100 years ago and he was not addressing today’s church.  But it was so applicable to the climate of this day and age.  I’m reminded of Solomon’s lament, "there is nothing new under the sun."
