An Ideal Space

(to the tune of “If I Were A Rich Man”)

“If I were a writer,

yada deeda, deeda, dada, dada, deeda, deeda di.

I would sit and type up words of life, if I were a writing man.”

Ok, so I tried.  Give me credit for that!  Ok, then, don’t.  I understand.  “Yada deeda” don’t really count as words.

I’ve been ordered to write about my ideal writing location/scenario.  I’m reminded of the movie “Love Actually” and the gentleman who gets dumped by his girlfriend and then goes off to France to write.  If you remember, the room overlooking the lake, that’s the room I want.  The wafty, billowing curtains, the sitting area, the desk and chair looking out at the lake.  Typewriter replaced by laptop.  Wireless would be nice, but not necessary.  Hey, I’ll even have the housekeeper bringing in tea while I write.  If the housekeeper were a young man, it would be even more interesting.  Ok, he could be the gardener, because I want a lovely garden to look at as well, while I write.  The housekeeper would be the older woman who would make sure I have a sweater.  I’d make sure I have my allergy medicine in hand, but I want the open air, the flowers, the water, the billowy curtains and the tea.  Antique furniture would be icing.  If not, just make it lived-in furniture, no carpet, just rugs.  I don’t see artwork, maybe a few pictures… of my daughter and grandchildren.

Let this be the beginning of my journey through “Pen on Fire” by Barbara Demarco-Barrett.  My room is set up.  The story awaits.
